Program content
Lectures: Implantoprosthodontics, use of endodontically treated teeth as abutments, instrumental analysis of occlusion, communication between doctor and dental technician, overdentures, two-step treatment, complications in prosthodontics.
Exercises: Complete dentures: preparation of oral cavity, impression taking, bite registration, control of the position of teeth, seating dentures, recall visit of complete dentures, long-term care.
Seminars: Performing complete dentures, clinical and laboratory dentures. Classification, construction, indications, contraindications, treatment planning. Alternative methods of treatment of edentulous patients.
Course regulations
1. Attendance at all scheduled sessions is obligatory in order to pass the course. If a student is not able to attend a course session he/she must inform the course coordinator of his/her intended absence and reason for that. For unexpected absences please contact coordinator as soon as possible or have someone contact them on your behalf. Being late 3 times is regarded as one absence and needs to be made up. Being late more than 15 minutes is regarded as absence and needs to be made up. Every absence needs to be made up, for excused absences document needs to be presented to course coordinator. The practical exercises after missed session should be performed by the student on a day and time pointed by the coordinator or instructor of the course.
2. Dress code: Clean and well-groomed with long hair tied back. Nails clean and trimmed to surgical working length. White lab coat, gloves, mask and protective eyewear worn at all times during treatment procedures. No jewelry.
3. It’s important not to commence work on patient without the tutor’s authorization, no matter how simple the procedure is.
4. Student has to be prepared for every class to be able to perform competent clinical procedures. Active and well-mannered participation in the classes is necessary to obtain the credit of the course.
5. The knowledge, competences and practical skills are assessed on the basis of student’s observation during classes, oral and written tests at the beginning, during and after completion of all parts of the course.
6. The course is scored by the results of the written final examination test after completing regular classes in IX semester. A single choice test consisting of 100 questions covers the material discussed during the course. The examination can be repeated twice– see the General School Regulations.
7. The final examination takes place at the Computer Examination Center. The threshold for receiving credit and completing the course is 65% (see the PUMS General School Regulations), with the grading system: - 94 – 100 good answers – very good (5.0) - 87 – 93 good answers – better than good (4.5) - 79 – 86 good answers – good (4.0) - 72 – 78 good answers – fairly good (3.5) - 65 – 71 good answers – satisfactory (3.0) - >64 good answers – unsatisfactory (2.0)
